THE LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT CANDLES:

Have one member of the family light the first purple candle. The candle of Hope!
Have one member of the family light the second purple candle.  The candle of Peace!

READ:

Luke 2:8-12

REFLECTION TIME:

Talk about these questions with your family or group.

    Kids:

    • Have you ever been jumped scared by someone? How long did it take you to calm down afterward?
    • The shepherds were scared to death and received the most important news in history. Do you remember a time when you thought something (a trip, an experience, a bite of food) was going to be terrible, but it ended up being great?
    • What does it mean to you that Jesus was born to be our Savior?

    Teens & Adults:

    • Take a few minutes to get into this story. What are you hearing? What smells are present? What can you see? What is the significance of these men being the first people to hear about the birth of the Savior?
    • Every time an Angel shows up, the people must be told, “Fear not.” How often are you left in awe by the story of Jesus? What’s the most unbelievable thing about grace?
    • “.. a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” This baby was the Savior: A deliverer … the Christ: The Anointed One… The Lord: The Supreme Authority. Is there something in your life that you think he can’t handle? The more we talk about our fears and doubts, the quicker they can be answered by the truth of the Gospel.

DAILY PRAYER:

  • That as we celebrate the baby born in Bethlehem, we would continually be in awe of the Savior, Christ the Lord.
