BEST DAY EVER

Good Friday to You, 
The things my kids sometimes say… 
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. There have been TV shows built around those “darndest” nuggets coming out of their mouths. Trinae has a new favorite: 
“This is the best day ever.” 
No matter how many times she says it per day and no matter how many days in a row, I just can’t get too upset with her. Having a positive attitude is a great choice to make. A “best day ever” attitude is much more enjoyable than a pouting one! And much more important than positive thinking is daily celebrating the goodness of our God. As the Psalmist declared, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
I must admit, however, every time I hear those words coming out of her mouth, I think to myself, “Honey, you have no idea!” To make this declaration while eating a marshmallow or after taking the same 4-wheeler ride we take multiple times per week cheapens the phrase a bit. And her 5.9-year-old frame of reference makes me feel like she is lacking a bit of…uh…perspective. 
She took the above selfie during one of these frequent ‘best day ever’ moments while checking out her newest tooth. I had to bite my lip to keep from saying something horrible like, “Honey, if this turns out to be the best day of your life…you really didn’t have much of a life.” But as every (at least better than horrible) father does…I kept my mouth shut! 
Trinae’s nugget is a fun introduction to our text for this weekend. We are looking at Esther 4, which includes the famous line from Mordecai to Esther, “And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Mordecai was essentially telling Esther that this may be her best day ever…the one in which she was uniquely created and divinely positioned. 
Those days aren’t always the ones filled with marshmallows or new-teeth selfies. Sometimes they are scary defining moments. Mordecai was right. They prayed and fasted. Esther with much boldness. Many lives were saved. 
Are you having your best day ever? Are you ready when that arrives? Esther nearly missed it. This weekend we have the opportunity to learn from her initial blindness and celebrate what God did in and through her bold response. Our focus will be on Esther 4 (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Esther+4&version=ESV). If you haven’t read the story for a while, I would encourage you to read the entire book. It is definitely a gift from God!
