- Scripture: Jonah 3:1-10
Reflect on the devotional, and answer the questions to dive in deeper!
- Devotional: Jonah 3 testifies to the surprising power of a simple, honest response to God’s word. When the people of Nineveh hear Jonah’s warning, they don’t argue, delay, or look for loopholes. Their king leads by example, and the people confess their sins and turn from them completely. Their repentance is marked by humility—they don’t know how things will turn out, but they cast themselves entirely on God’s mercy. During Lent, this passage reminds us that confession begins when we take God at His word and respond in faith. God’s willingness to relent from His wrath shows that sincere repentance—even from the most unlikely people—is met with His unwavering compassion.
