- Devotional: Daniel’s prayer in today’s passage takes place in exile, a painful reminder that sin has real consequences for God’s people. Yet instead of distancing himself from that guilt, Daniel leans in—confessing “we” again and again. He takes ownership of the nation’s sin without making excuses while appealing to God’s covenant faithfulness. His confession is careful and specific, rooted in Scripture, and marked by a deep awareness of God’s righteousness and Israel’s shame. During Lent, this passage reminds us that confession often happens in the aftermath of failure, when we finally see where our sin has taken us. Even there, Daniel shows us that God welcomes honest repentance and hears the prayers of those who return to Him in humility.
